June 2015 Winter Harbour, BC Fishing Report

I’m going to go ahead and say it… June in Winter Harbour is one of the most under-rated fisheries on the west coast of North America! Now before you go giving me a hard time, I have proof.

Spring Chinook fishing from Top Knot to Brooks out on the highway has been nothing short of unbelievable the past couple weeks. Last week we had absolutely flat calm water, hot weather, and screaming reels. You could not keep the springs off your line! We’ve also had some great fishing inside at Cains Island (AKA, the Lighthouse) where we’ve seen 10-15 fish per hour bites! And even surprisingly to me, the coho fishing has been stellar — rivaling August.

And it goes without saying the bottom fishing has been spectacular as well which is common in the early season. Limits of monster ling cod and halibut have been had by all my guests in quick order. My “bring your own boat” guests have been doing incredible as well filling their coolers to the brim.

So far we’re off to a stellar season with more great fishing to come in the summer months. But if you want to experience some of the best fishing on the west coast and virtually no crowds, June in Winter Harbour is the place to be.
