2016 Fishing Report for Winter Harbour

West coast of Vancouver Island 2016 season is shaping up to be one of the best in the past decade. Huge number of chinook salmon are predicted to return to not only our local west coast rivers, but also many American rivers including the Columbia.

There are a few on the west coast here expecting over 100,000 Chinook to return to each river. The old mighty Columbia has some predictions doing better than last year which was pushing 1,000,000 Chinook. As people have seen in the past, these Columbia’s start showing up as early as mid May.  By the time the first week of June hits it is full out craziness.

I was just up to Winter Harbour for the first trip of the season and there is defiantly no shortage of bottom fish around. Both days on the water we hit our limits of halibut and lingcod by noon.

Look forward to seeing everybody up there this year for another outstanding year fishing the beautiful west coast, Winter Harbour.
